Jigawa State government in collaboration with the National Malaria Elimination Program with funding support from the Global Fund Malaria Project has commenced the process of the 2024 integrated Insecticide Treated Net (ITN) and Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) campaign in the state.
To that effect, over 6.8million doses of Sulfadoxine-Pyrimethamine Amodiaquine (SPAQ) will be distributed to children aged 3-59 months, with over 3million Insecticide Treated Net will be given to the people of Jigawa State.
The State Malaria Elimination Programme SMoH Programme Manager, Malam Haruna Bilya stated this at the media parley on the integrated Insecticide Treatment NETs (ITNs) and seasonal malaria chemoprevention (SMC) campaign held at B.Nakowa Hotel in Dutse, Jigawa State Capital.
Mal. Bilya explained that distribution will be in a double phase approach which includes Mobilization in the household then onward distribution at designated distribution points while the Sulfadoxine-Pyrimethamine Amodiaquine (SPAQ) administration will be a household door-to-door approach.
He explained that the household registration and simultaneous administration of Cycle 1 and Sulfadoxine-Pyrimethamine Amodiaquine (SPAQ) will commence from Wednesday 24th to Sunday 28th July, 2024, added that households must ensure that they leave somebody at home within this period to receive the CMDs.
According to him after the direct observed therapy on day 1, caregivers must ensure they complete the dose for their children by administering the remaining drugs on day 2 and 3.
Hotpen reports that, the campaign is led by the Jigawa State Ministry of Health through the State Malaria Elimination Program with the National Malaria Elimination Program and Malaria Consortium is serving as the implementing partners.
