Gov. Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has described the achievements of the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project in Bauchi State as exceptional, saying the project’s performance has strengthened confidence in the state’s livestock development agenda.
The Commissioner for Livestock Development, Dr. Bala Musa Lukshi, made the remarks while chairing the State Steering Committee meeting held at the project’s conference hall in Bauchi.
Lukshi, who also chairs the committee, said the impressive results recorded within a short period had rekindled hope and inspired the state government to sustain its commitment to the project.
He explained that the meeting reviewed implementation progress, assessed challenges, and outlined strategies to improve performance and ensure effective project delivery.
The Permanent Secretary of the ministry and Secretary of the Committee, Alhaji Jibrin Yusuf Mohammed Panti, said project implementation strictly followed the revised work plan and budget approved by the State Technical Committee and the World Bank.
The State Project Coordinator, Dr. Musa Adamu One, appreciated Gov. Mohammed for the warm reception accorded to the World Bank Co-Task Team Leader, Dr. Chidoze, and his delegation during their recent implementation support mission.
According to him, the World Bank team commended the project’s rapid progress, particularly the completion of 15 slaughterhouses, veterinary clinics, animal watering boreholes and capacity-building programmes.
He added that construction of an Artificial Insemination Centre and Farmers’ Field School at the College of Agriculture, Bauchi, milk collection centres across the state and the upgrading of livestock markets were ongoing.
The committee also identified implementation delays, procurement constraints, counterpart funding, stakeholder collaboration and capacity-building gaps as key challenges, while reaffirming its commitment to ensuring the successful execution of the project across the state.
