IWD: Group Calls for Women Inclusion in Politics

HOTPEN – As the world-marked international women’s day, the National President of Jam’iyyar Matan Arewa, Hajiya Rabi Musa Saulawa, a sociocultural women’s Organization has called for women’s inclusion in Politics in the country.
The National President of the Organization made the call during a public lecture to mark international women’s day in Kaduna.
The lecture with the theme “Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow”
Hajiya Rabi Saulawa further said “for the entire North-west we only have one woman in Kaduna state House of Assembly, as for the House of Representative we only have 13 wome.
“We must ensure that women are fully participating in Politics, not only been a voters but should contest in key positions, so that they can be voted into various positions, as you can see women came out and vote but at the end of the day few positions used to be allocated to them, this narrative should stop.
Also Speaking at the event, the Guest Lecturer Hajiya Asma’u Maikudi who is also the INEC Kaduna Electoral Resident Commissioner, said “women should get their voter’s card this will enable them to votes candidates of their choice, INEC has taken registration of voters to ward level, this will end the suffering they encounter of going to long distance.
“This registration exercise will end by June this year, so l encourage you to go and have your voters card, this will enable you to vote candidates of your choice comes 2023 general elections.
In an interview during the event, Mrs. Florance Diya Aya, former Member Kaduna state House of Assembly and former Member House of Representatives, from Sanga in southern Kaduna, said “as the world is marking this day women should unite and support their women counterpart into various key political positions,
“We need more positions for women to showcase our potentials, that is why I mentor women how on how to involve in politics through sensitization campaigns, seminar and l believe very soon women will occupy key positions.
