The Nigeria Senate President of the 9th Assembly, Senator, Ahmed Ibrahim has Lawan launched a 120-bed capacity Mother and Child Hospital in Gashua headquarters of Bade Local Government Area of Yobe State.
The project was executed by the presidency and office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (OSSAP-SDGs) in collaboration with the office of Senate President and Yobe State government.
Speaking, Senator Lawan disclosed that the hospital has been named after President Muhammad Buhari in view of his support and cooperation to the people of the area in the provision of democracy dividends. “We appreciate him and will continue to keep his legacies in our mind”.
He explained that the hospital commissioned expected to start working today will continue to benefit the people of Gashua, Yobs.
State and neighboring states
The Senate President used the forum to announce that next year they will build an intensive care unit at the Specialist Hospital, Gashua in order to provide more healthcare facilities to their people to complement the efforts of Yobe State Government.
He also, commended Governor Mai Mala Buni for the partnership and collaboration which is yielding a positive impact on the livelihood of the citizens.
He enjoined the health workers to judiciously utilize and maintain the facility “ensure appropriate care of the facilities” adding that the media practitioners should queue in drawing the attention of the leaders on anything going wrong in the facility.
Earlier in his remarks, the Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammad Buhari on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Adejoke Orelope Adefulire thanked all that witnessed the commissioning ceremony.
She disclosed that this project is one of the projects SDGs has completed and equipped accross Nigeria. Adefulire thanked the President of the Senate for facilitating the project “this intervention will fully benefit the people of the area, this partnership is highly commendable, we also appreciate the state Governor Mai Mala Buni for the cooperation and desire to execute this project here, we are appreciate your leadership”.
According to her, the newly commissioned Hospital has adequate facilities such as private ward, intensive care unit for babies and mothers, a standby ambulance among others too numerous to mention.
On his part, Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni represented by the Commissioner Yobe State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs an Disaster Management Dr Abubakar Garba Iliya said that in order to ensure quality health care delivery in the state, “our administration is also undertaking the upgrade of primary health care centers (PHCCs) to General Hospital status in some communities, Machina, Yusufari, and Bara respectively.
The according to him, the aim was to ensure that they have at least one General Hospital in each of the 17 Local Government Areas in the state. “Government has also upgraded the General Hospitals in Potiskum, Gashua, Geidam and Buni Yadi to Specialist Hospital status.
