Media Has Key Role In Tackling Nigeria’s Insecurity – NSCDC Commandant

HOTPEN – As the world mark world Civil Defence day on every 1st of March, the Commandant of Kaduna state, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Dr. Godwin Miebi, said “The Media and other relevant stakeholders have a crucial role to play in educating the general public on the need to always collaborate with security oparatives in combating the hydra-headed menace of Insecurity that is currently threatening the very foundation of unity and national co-existence.
Mr. Godwin added that “Security is everyone’s business, the civilians should all see security oparatives as partners in progress and feed them with revelant information as they put their precious lives out there for our collective safety, it is pertinent to note that they cannot do it alone without collective support”.
The commandant was speaking at the world Civil Defense Day, with the Theme “Civil Defence and Management of Displaced Population in the Face of Disaster and Crisis, Roles of Volunteers and the Fight Against Pandemic in the Organization”.
The Commandant further said “What we are witnessing today birthed from foresight decision of the Commandant General, whose policy of rejigging, restructuring, rejuvenating, and repositioning of the corps statutory mandate of maintaining law and order.
He said “Safe-guading critical government installations, protection of National Assets, war against insurgency, needless abduction going on and creating/ equipping the specialized Agro Rangers force of the corps in tackling herders/farmers clashes is the renewed vigor the force in currently working to eradicate in the country”.
“The corps has Disaster Management unit Rescue Team in coordinating the flooded areas and enforcing the Executive order on Covid 19, restoration of peace in restive areas through employing peace and conflict resolution mechanismand checkmating private guard companies and the protection of Child Rights laws.
The Commandant further explained that the command have 54 Female Personnels in the Command Armed Squad, we have Rapid Respond Squad and also the Safe School Iniatiave.
Also speaking, the Kaduna state Commissioner of Police, CP Abdullahi Mudassir, said the Command is collaborating with Security Iperatives to curb the menace of criminals element in Kaduna State.
The Commissioner was Represented by Assistance Commissioner of Police in charge of Operation, AC Abubakar Haruna.
