BREAKING: Buhari Orders Resignation of All Cabinet Members With Political Ambitions
By Rabiu Musa
HOTPEN – President Muhammadu Buhari has on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, ordered Ministers and other appointees in his cabinet who are interested in contesting for any political position to resign.
The President gave the order shortly after the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.
He singled out the Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba, for braving the odds to resign honorably to avoid conflict of interest.
A visibly angry President Buhari said he had received the resignation of Nwajiuba seeking to be President.
He said: “I expect other members of this council seeking to be President to resign with immediate effect.”
Briefly, after his statement, other Ministers seeking to be Governors, Senators, and House of Representatives members were busy trying to seek clarifications if they were affected.
A source in the cabinet said: “We were not clear if this directive will affect other ministers aspiring to be governors, senators, and House of Representatives members.
“We are expecting more clarifications soon,” the source said.

Although several other appointees such as the Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami SAN, are not interested in becoming President of Nigeria, he has however expressed interest in becoming the next Kebbi State Governor.
Others affected are the Minister of State Mines and Steel, Uche Ogar, who is running for the governorship position in Abia State, and the Minister of Women Affairs, Pauline Tallen, who declared her ambition to contest for the senatorial seat in Plateau State.
Clarifying the President’s directive, the Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, stressed that Federal Executive Council (FEC) members running for elective offices are expected to submit their letters of resignation on or before Monday the 16th of May, 2022.
Mr. Mohammed explained that this mandate excludes the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo because he is an elected member of the cabinet.
He affirmed that any amendment or additions to this directive will be disseminated accordingly.
The Minister added that if the need arises, the directive might involve political appointees.
