In continuation of his advocacy visit to Nigerian major stakeholders on security matters, Minister of Defence, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar met with the former Nigeria’s Chief of Army staff General Martins Luther Agwai at his residence in Abuja.
Briefing the Former Army Chief , the Minister said he is engaging Former Military Leaders and Prominent elders for Professional and elderly advices on Security Issues, particularly on conflict resolution to promote peace, stability and decent democracy.
Badaru Abubakar explained that being a one time commander of the combined United Nations-Africa Union Peace Keeping force in Darfur – Sudan and a highly respected retired Army General, he has very useful advice to give that will help him and his Minister of State to cope with the current Security challenges bedeviling the Nation and its immediate neighbors.
The Minister commended the elder statesman and General for the tremendous contributions he rendered to his fatherland to keep its unity, dignity, peace and stability, and for granting him the audience to discuss matters of useful interest for the peace and progress of Nigeria.
Responding, the former Chief of Army Staff General Martins Luther Agwai congratulated the new Minister for his appointment and urged him to feel free at any time he needs his professional advice that will help him accomplish the task of his enormous duties as Minister responsible for the security and safeguard of the Nation’s Territorial Integrity.
The Minister also paid similar visit to the Former Military Head of State, General Abdulsalam Abubakar at his residence in Abuja.
While briefing the former Nigerian Leader, the Minister intimated him that in view of the task and responsibilities ahead in the sensitive Ministry, it was necessary for him and his Minister of State to meet him and other former leaders to tap from their wealth of experience on how to succeed.
Badaru Abubakar said he will not relent in his efforts of wider consultations with elders and former Nigerian Leaders on how to tackle the current security challenges facing the Nation.
The Defence Minister commended the Former Head of State General Abdulsalam Abubakar who is also the head of ECOWAS special envoy to Niger Republic for his gigantic efforts to restore peace and overcome the current political impasse in the landlocked country.
