Bichi local government council on Monday flagged off treatment of over 3000 Wells across 11 political ward with chlorine to enhance hygienic drinking water.
Dr Yusuf Mohammad Sabo who kick off the week long exercise at an 80 year old Kwakware Well located in Sabon Gari area of Bichi town said it was a proactive steps designed to check out break of water born diseases in the Council.
Dr. Sabo stressed that “the essence of the program is to ensure that the people of Bichi Local Government have clean and hygienic water for their day to day activities.”
The Bichi Council boss revealed that plan is afoot to relocate Wells that shared vicinity with pit toilet within the 11 political wards.
He stated already official have commenced Census of such facility within the council, stressing that “we will initiate action soon as they turn in their report”.
The chairman, however commended the state government for creating enabling environment for the exercise, adding that ” its support will go along way to boost good health care in the council”.
He therefore urged the people of Bichi Local Government Area to support the initiative by ensuring that their Wells were being treated with the chlorine solution.
In a speech at the ceremony, Malam Rabiu Umar Jibrin, an indigene of Bichi town who spoke on behalf of other beneficiaries applauded the foresight and commitment of the local government council for the initiative.
