The People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Katsina State Chapter has described the recent judgement of PEPTC and the Katsina Election Tribunal as quite unfortunate and a misplacement of justice.
Addressing press conference, Chairman of the 2023 Katsina PDP Campaign Council, Senator Umar Ibrahim Tsauri,
called on their supporters in Katsina State and across Nigeria to disregard the judgments delivered by the PEPC and the Katsina State Election Tribunal.
Senator Tsauri explained that the judgments were a far cry from justice, likening them to the actions of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC); whom he alleged deceived Nigerians.
Hotpen reports that the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal in Katsina, led by Hon. Justice O. Ogunfowora, recently nullified and set aside the victories of two members of the House of Representatives; Aminu Ahmadu Chindo of the PDP, as member Katsina Central Federal Constituency, as well as that of Ismail Dalha, member representing Kankia/Kusada/Ingawa federal constituency, on the grounds that they presented forged School Certificates.
Senator Tsauri expressed concern over the tribunal’s decisions regarding the qualifications of the affected Katsina PDP members based on primary school certificates. Contrasting this with a recent ruling on President Tinubu’s credentials, he said they will explore all legal avenues to challenge the rulings which he described as unjust.
Furthermore, he asserted that the justices of the court of appeal, including Justice Tsammani, had promised to base their judgments on facts rather than technicalities.
However, he claimed that these promises were unfulfilled, with judgments lacking in factual basis and veering toward personal interests.
The Senator referred to this as a “rape of democracy,” warning that such precedents would be unsustainable.
