The Supreme Court has reserve judgement in the Kano state governorship election dispute between Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and Nasiru Gawuna.
Daily News 24 reports that the apex court said the date for the judgment on the matter will be communicated to both parties.
Earlier, a five-member panel of Supreme Court justices presided over by Justice Inyang Okoro on Thursday reserved the judgement after listening to lawyers in the matter.
Recall that Governor Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) had been declared winner of the March 18, 2023 governorship polls in Kano by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), after securing a total of 1,019,60 votes against his opponent Nasiru Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 890,702.
However, not satisfied with the results, Mr Gawuna’s party the APC filed a case at the election tribunal which overturned Mr Abba’s victory and declared Mr Gawuna winner after deducting 165,000 votes from the former’s tally.
But Mr Yusuf appealed the verdict at the Court of Appeal which again sacked Mr Yusuf, this time on the grounds that he was not a member of his party, the NNPP at the time of elections.
