Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu has expressed determination and commitment to support the Armed Forces with necessary tools to effectively discharge their constitutional mandates.
The Governor made the remarks on Monday at the laying of wrath and appeal ceremony marking the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, held in Sokoto.
At the launching the state government donated 10 million naira to the fundraising, with the Chief launcher Alhaji Ahamed Gohe Tafida donating 3 million naira respespectively.
The 23 LGAs of the state donated, ten million naira, state legislatures 3 million naira and the state executive council donated 3 million naira, which totals 26 million from the state government.
The Governor in address said, “It’s necessary to remember our great men and women of values who devoted and sacrifice their lives to the service of the nation at the frontline and paid supreme price, while others became deformed or incapacitated”.
“Many died as a result of injuries sustained in the course of protecting the territorial integrity of our dear nation, and left their loved ones behind.”
“As a nation, we have not done enough in looking after those who have served the country deligently, ” I Urge all and sundary to donate and support the fundraising ceremony with their widow might.
He described Armed Forces as an institution saddled with the responsibility of the continue existence of Nigeria as a country, that need adequate and desired attention.
The General officer commanding 8 Division headquarters Nigerian Army Sokoto, Maj General Godwin Mutkut donated 3 million naira on behalf of the armed forces at the annual event.
He said the Nigerian Army are supposed to organize the yearly event, but the civilians were doing it on their behalf, “we have to donate to complement their efforts to serve as a sign of encouragement and moral booster.
“The Nigerian Army are fully concern about the welfare of the families of the deceased officers and soldiers who lost their lives at the line of duty and those incapacitated while trying to protect the lives of the citizens” says the GOC.
