The Chairman of Kano State Public Compliant and Anti-Corruption Commission, PCACC, Barr. Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado has on Sunday led team of journalists and staff of the commission to Dawanau warehouses, uncovered and sealed off dozens of stores over alleged hoarding of essential commodities.
Hotpen reports that hoarding the commodities have resulted in the artificial soaring prices as well as shortage of the commodities in the market.
Barr. Muhuyi Rimingado has during the unscheduled visit to the warehouses sealed off dozens of stores stocked with essential commodities includes grains, millets, sugar and spaghetti among others.
The Kano Anti Corruption Boss explained that the commission carried out the unscheduled inspection to warehouses of the Africa’s leading grain market, Dawanau grain market in Kano after intelligence report and securing search warrant from the court.
He stated further that the operation became imperative to check the incessant increase of prices of essential commodities which is compounding the hardship faced by Nigerians.
His words: “The Kano state Public Complaint and Anti Corruption Commission (PCACC) has made true it’s promise that we are going to embark on fight against hoarding of essential commodities in the state.
“Thanks be to Almighty Allah, from what we have done so far, we are certain that there is impact from here we are going to the market to ascertain the situation.
“We were able to stop the incessant increase in prices of the commodities and secondly, we have the belief that if we sustain the tempo we will be able to bring down the prices.
He lamented that, any store visited by the taskforce team, the owners claimed that, the consignments belongs to the World Food Program, expressed wonder how the world food program will starve the country while taking the food somewhere else.
The commission according to Barr. Rimingado will not tolerate such unmerciful acts by marketers, “we are taking over the stores through padlocking them and we are going to make some certain arrests”. Muhuyi lamented.
The commission also visited Singer market and discussed extensively with some market leaders on the issue with a view to find lasting solution to the situation.
