The Civil Society Scaling Up Nutrition in Nigeria (CS-SUNN) has called on Gombe State Government for prompt release of funds for implementation of nutrition intervention aimed at adressing malnutrion in the state.
The CS-SUNN coordinator Kaduna state Ms. Jessica Bathelomeo stated this in Gombe yesterday during an interview with news men.
CS-SUNN, is a non-governmental, non-profit-making coalition, is dedicated to transforming Nigeria into a country where every citizen has secured food and nutrition.
“Timely release of funds to implement the activities in the state, Multi -sectoral Plan of Action for Nutrition as well as the establishment of Nutrition Departments in all line Ministries, Department, and Agencies is key.
She said despite some level of commitmment showed by the state government there are disturbing statistics that indicates a lot is yet to be done to combat the scourge of malnutrition in Gombe.
She added “Gombe State Government has shown some commitment to addressing malnutrition through the domestication of the NSPAN (in 2016 and later reviewed in 2023) and operationalisation of the State Food and Nutrition Policy,” she explained.
She also stressed the need for government to extend maternity leave for nursing mothers from the current four to six months with pay.
The coordinator reiterated CS-SUNN commitment in furnishing the media with relevant information for factual reporting and better outcome.
“Furnishing you with factual information, will help you to intensify efffort in reporting issues of nutrition to quicken action toward adressing malnutrition in the state,” she said.
