The Police in Gombe have arrested two suspects for alleged stealing and looting from trucks conveying food items in the state.
The Spokesman of the Command, ASP Mahid Abubakar said this while parading the suspects on Thursday in Gombe.
He said operatives of the Command apprehended the suspects (names withheld) for alleged looting and terrorising trucks plying Bojude -Dukku highway.
Abubakar said the suspects took advantage of the potholes on the road which made the truck drivers to slow down, to climb and loot food items.
“On March 20, about 9:00 a.m, information received from a credible source indicated that on March 18, some youths from Gombe, Digize and Bozonshulwa communities were terrorising the federal highway which links Bojude – Dukku.
“Where there are several potholes on the road as a result, every vehicle plying the road must slow down in order not to damage their vehicles.
“With this slow movement, the suspects take advantage and climb on top of the vehicle and steal some goods loaded without the driver’s knowledge,” he said.
He said the Police recovered three cartons of soft drinks and a half bag of beans from the suspects, and advised truck drivers to be wary of bad elements while plying the road.
The Spokesman said the Police arrested three other suspects (names witheld) for allegedly rustling 23 cattle belonging to one Anchau Maishanu of Golombi village.
