Jigawa state government has commenced the distribution of 30,000 sets of school uniform to female students of senior secondary school in the state.
Speaking at the flagging off of the distribution of the uniforms held at Jahun Girls Science Senior Secondary School, Governor Umar Namadi said, education is one of the key sector in his 12 point agenda and it will continue to receive lion share in the state government’s annual budget.
According to him:-“We can”t achieve our dreams fo Greater Jigawa without revitalizing the state education sector, expanding the access to quality education for all children in the state”
The governor reiitrated his commitment to accord special priority on girls child education to bridge the gap in the sector.
In his speech the state commissioner for higher education Dr. Yusuf Chamo said, the distribution of the free uniform is part of government policy in promoting girls child enrollment and retention in the schools.
The state government under its policy for free girls child education has paid a scholarship to over 10,000 girls child study at various public higher institution across the country, 121 sponsored to read Medicine in Syprus N150 Million expanded for AGILE program, 70,000 exercise books distributed to the girls student and over N1 billion was spent in the renovation of 12 girls Senior Secondary schools.
Said he:-“The intervention made by led Governor Malam Umar Namadi administration to enhance girls child education as well as improving the state education cant be mentioned in a limited time and the impacts has already started manifesting”.
