No fewer than 30,000 out of school children in Jigawa state under the umbrella of Danmodi Students Care will be back to class to continue with their education.
Hotpen reports that, the efforts was geared towards revatilizing the education sector and to enable the less privileged children to further their education, to that effect Students Union Government has gone far with it’s campaign for the enrollment of the targeted number of children across the 27 local government areas of Jigawa state.
Speaking at the distribution of school’s uniform and other learning materials to the registered students, the Senior Special Adviser to Jigawa state governor on Students Affairs, Ambassador Salisu Muhammad Seeker said, their union is serously disturbed on the higher rate of out of school children in the state.
Amb. Salisu Seeker explained that, after conducting a survey on out of school children in the state they discovered nemouros factors behind the problems, but many of them are out of school because they lost their fathers while their mothers cannot afford to send 5 to 6 children to school.
According to him:- “Base on the above mentioned, the Union embarked on campaign to enroll 30,000 of such children back to class, some were dropout while some have never been registered into any formal system of education.
“In each of the 27 local governments we targeted to support over 1,000 children and at the same time support their mothers to ensure punctuality and retention of the students”
The SSA on students affairs added that there is also a provision for intervention to disable students studying at the School for the Blind Dutse, as over 150 bicycles will be disbursed to pupils study at a far distance, there is also a secured and rented hostel for Jigawa students studying at Gashuwa Federal University, and also facilitated the scholarship and emergency response to various students needs.
Amb. Salisu then promised to continue supporting Jigawa state government policy designed to ensure every child get access to quality education in respect of his parents socio-economic status or geographical location.
Speaking at the occasion, Jigawa state Governor Malam Umar Namadi who was overwhelmed commended the union’s efforts in supporting educational development in the state.
He charged them to keep on monitoring the students they enroll back to class and promised to provide them with all the necessary support to enhance access to quality education from primary to Tertiary for every child in Jigawa state.
